Highlights:

• We read a kindness book called The Jelly Donut Difference & then we made a paper donut with kindness sprinkled words
• We practiced counting by tens starting at random points on the hundred chart 
• We used the number line to add double digit numbers (first we add the tens and then we add the ones)
• Our Grade 5 buddies shared their Zones of Regulation books with us and we learned many different tools to use in the red, blue, green and yellow

Wednesday, Feb.25

Highlights:

• We had an assembly to celebrate Pink Shirt Day
• Ask me how pink shirt day started
• We made a kindness jar & handed out nice notes to kids in our class
• We read a book called The Love Letter. It was about different animals in the forest that found the letter and how happy it made them feel

 

Monday, Feb.23

Highlights:

• Some of the Grade 5 students did a science fair project and shared their ideas with us. There were some very cool displays. There were some experiments with mold on burgers!
• To celebrate the Chinese New Year, Ms. Qui made a Chinese dragon to parade through the classrooms
• Mrs Barrowcliff was back today so we finally got to exchange our library books!
• For Black History Month, we learned about Viola Desmond and how she stood up for the rights of black people
• Mr. Newton introduced hockey to us today
• We made a kindness quilt today
• We continued to talk about our Heritage

 

Friday, Feb.20

Highlights:

• To celebrate Black History month, we read a story written by Faith Ringold called Tar Beach. Then we replicated a piece of art from her book
• We got to have recess outside and play in all the snow!
• We saw Canada win the hockey game during our gym class

 

Tuesday, Feb.17

Highlights:

• Today the author who wrote Brave Like A Buffalo, came to visit our school
• She read the book, sang a song that we sang along with and answered lots of questions for us. Did you know she wrote this book in 2 hours!
• Today is the first day of Lunar New Year so we made a Chinese dragon
• We had to have lunch recess and afternoon recess inside since it was so cold outside

 

Tuesday, Feb10

Highlights:

• We made Chinese lanterns for Lunar New Year
• We had the Grade 5 Creative Club visit us today to show us how to make corner bookmarks 
• We practiced adding & subtracting 10 with the 100 chartt

 

Monday, Feb.9

Highlights:

• We used our 4 square planner to write different facts we learned about eagles
• We practiced logging into the Chromebooks and went onto a fun website called Starfall
• We wrote about the scientific experiment for a Soundwich that we'll make tomorrow
• We did UFli groups and literacy centres

 

Thursday, Feb.5

Highlights:

• Today we watched short videos to see what all the different winter sports are at the Olympics. Did you know there are 11 winter sports at the Olympics
• We wrote about one sport that we would like to try. Ask me what one I liked the best.
• In science, we completed 4 different sound experiments. All of the experiments are helping us learn that sound is created through vibration. 
• Today was our last day of curling in gym
• We are also listening to a Treehouse read aloud about Jack and Annie going to visit Olympia, Greece
